Dave Nagle

Today, I lead the compute, storage, analytics and machine learning infrastructure teams at Airbnb. Working across open source systems including Vitess, Kafka, Iceberg and Airbnb custom systems such as Airflow, Zipline, Superset, we deliver the software that powers Airbnb Infra. Leading Airbnb's commitment to making cloud systems easier to use for all startups, our engineering org is collaborating across the industry to build a common set of infrastructure that greatly improves the managability and reliability of cloud-based infrastructure. We are actively hiring in all areas. You can reach me at david.nagle@airbnb.com.

From 2006 - 2016, I lead Google's storage software development org responsible for building all of Google's internal storage systems (e.g., Bigtable, Megastore, Spanner, Blobstore, and Dremel). From 2014-2016, I lead the organization's shift to cloud, with direct responsibility for both the product roadmap and the 500-person org that delivered numerous offerings including Google Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, Cloud Spanner, Persistent Disk, and Cloud Bigtable.

In 2017, I moved to Facebook, rebuilding their Core Data organization. Central to this effort was maturing Facebook's technology vision from open source to custom-built structured data systems that can store and serve the social graph across a range of apps including ads, search, and messenger. Prior to joining industry, I was a Carnegie Mellon University Professor, Director of CMU's Parallel Data Lab, and a member of the T10 OSD standards group. I have also served as advisor to several startups, including Pliops.
